One way we hope to accomplish this is by appointing a committee to perform a feasibility study centered on developing an affiliation with a Kansas based university for establishing a KSHIMSS scholarship supporting study in healthcare information technology.

Welcome to the Kansas Chapter of HIMSS

Kansas HIMSS is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation focused on providing leadership in healthcare for the management of information systems, technology and information. 

OUR MISSION is to foster professional growth, relationships, knowledge and collaboration among healthcare information management professionals throughout the great state of Kansas. Our chapter is working toward promoting an organized forum for continuing education and exchange of ideas amongst its members to improve healthcare information and management systems that support patient care and wellness.

MEMBERSHIP in Kansas HIMSS is open to all persons interested in management systems, information systems and telecommunications as they apply in healthcare. The current Kansas membership consists of IT professionals, consultants, vendors, and clinical professionals actively working in or interested in areas of management, information systems, telecommunications and clinical systems.

Kansas HIMSS Chapter Elects Vice President - Scott Barth, MBA, BS, CPHIMS

After allowing time for nominations, the KSHIMSS Chapter received a single nomination for Vice President in the time period allotted. Following Chapter Bylaws, the single nominee had to be reviewed and approved by the current Board via Board Quorum. That Quorum has been achieved, therefore Scott Barth, MBA, BS, CPHIMS has been elected to serve the KSHIMSS Chapter as the Vice-President. Scott will serve in this position for the next 2 years, and then will serve an additional 2 years as the Chapter President. The Board is confident that Scott will continue the progress we are making in reshaping the KSHIMSS Chapter. Scott’s term as Vice President will begin July 1, 2011.

Scott is a health information technology (HIT) professional. As a program manager for Primaris, Missouri’s Medicare quality improvement organization (QIO), he was responsible for assisting physician practices use electronic health records (EHRs) to make better use of their investments to improve care and leverage data and financial incentives. He was previously responsible for the Doctors Office Quality–Information Technology (DOQ-IT) initiative for western Missouri. In this role, Scott assisted physician practices in the assessment, planning, selection and implementation of electronic health records as well as quality improvement, workflow analysis and care management.

Scott has over 28 years of health information technology experience. Prior to working for Primaris, he previously served as information services director of a multi-state Midwestern QIO. He has also served as the information systems director for a medium-sized hospital/health system in Indiana. He has experience in data mining and analysis for a large multi-specialty clinic. Most recently, he was the manager for the HIT Regional Extension Center (REC) in Kansas, hiring field staff and assisting in ramping up the new program.

Scott’s formal education includes a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana. He is a Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) as certified by the Health Information Management & Systems Society (HIMSS).
